ACCRA SYNOD OPENS WITH A CALL FOR FERVENT PRAYERS

The 61st Annual Synod of the Accra
Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana has opened with a call on members to
commit to fervent prayers.
“Let fervent prayers be raised in all our
congregations for a mighty outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit on all God’s people
to move us mightily into being active witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ in
every sphere of endeavor”, Methodist Bishop of Accra, Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi
Bortey told participants at the official opening session of Synod on Thursday,
April 28, 2022.
Synod is the apex decision making body within a
Methodist Diocese and is composed of Ministers and selected lay members within
the Diocese. This year’s Synod is hosted by the Teshie Circuit at the Joseph
Afotey Aku-Boye Memorial Methodist Church, Teshie North.
The theme for the Synod is “Discipleship: Living
the Transformed Life in Jesus Christ”, drawn from the Church’s main theme for
the year.
Bishop Borlabi Bortey spoke on various aspects of
the Church’s life including Education, Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Church
Planting and Growth as well as the Church’s role in Society. He outlined the
vision for his three-year tenure of office and disclosed “Our concern
throughout shall be to ensure that we comply with the implementation of the Church’s
Strategic Plan”. Rt Rev Borlabi Bortey congratulated the Accra Diocesan Choir for
coming runners up at a recently held Africa Region Choral Music competition in
Kigali, Rwanda and called for greater attention to the Singing Ministry within
the Church.
Present at the opening ceremony were the Presiding
Bishop of the Church, the Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, the Administrative
Bishop, the Rt Rev Michael Agyakwa Bossman, serving and past clergy and lay
Officers of the Diocese as well as representatives from other Dioceses and
churches including the Catholic Church and the Presbyterian Church of Ghana who
delivered fraternal messages and made donations to the Synod.
The Synod which ends with a Thanksgiving Service of
Sunday, May 01, 2022 is expected to elect a new Lay Chairman to replace the
incumbent, Sis Agatha Nana Ama Ennin Osei whose tenure of office ends of September
30, 2022
