METHODIST EDUCATION UNIT RE-LAUNCHES WESLEY CLUB IN SCHOOLS

The Methodist Education Unit
(MEU) in the Greater Accra Region has organised an event in Accra to re-launch Wesley
Club in Methodist schools.
The event which took place
on Thursday, December 02, 2021 at the Rev Joseph Thomas Clegg Memorial
Methodist Chapel, Kaneshie was chaired by the General Director for Education and
Youth Development of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Very Rev Mrs Naana Esi Dannyame
and attended by pupils from selected Methodist first and second cycle institutions
in the Greater Accra Region.
Re-launching the Club, the
Methodist Bishop of Accra, the Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey explained that “The
Church is concerned and wants to get actively involved in the bringing up of
our children”, adding, the Wesley Club is intended to “Ensure that our children
are imbued with such virtues that will inure to their future development and
their future wellbeing”.
Citing Proverbs 22:6 as the
Biblical basis for the formation of the Club, Rt Rev Borlabi Bortey, was confident
that “If our children know the Lord Jesus in their infancy while growing, then
we are sure that they will continue to live in holiness and righteousness all
the days of their lives”. He further noted that “The Wesley Club is to ensure
that we inculcate the virtues of the Christian Faith firmly in our children”.
The outgoing Greater Accra
Regional Manager of Methodist Schools, Ms Helena Mends-Kittoe, pledged that “The
[Methodist] Education Unit in discharging its dual responsibility as a pathfinder
for learners at school and the church will continuously support teachers to effectively
fine tune learners’ attitude, aspirations and goals” in response to what she noted
as the increasing rate in crime and other social vices.
The occasion was also used
to announce the Unit’s decision to hoist the Methodist Church flag in all Methodist
schools in the Greater Accra Region. The Methodist Hymnal and a booklet containing
hymns and their meanings were also unveiled as part of the Unit’s effort at helping
learners and teachers to live transformed lives in Jesus Christ.
Retired staffs of MEU in the
region were also presented with citations and gifts for their dedicated service
to the Unit.
